The award ceremony
This award ceremony was for the winners of a literature competition in the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras Campus. In which there were three divisions: Short story, essay and poetry. The awards for each division were given to the first three winning positions. I participated in this competition, in the poetry division, and won third place. The poem I submitted was “Forgotten,” a really short poem that I wrote for the English class. The ceremony was dedicated to an old professor that died last year and to his memory, some of his poems were read aloud.
I did not want to go to this award ceremony, but since I won third place, I had to go. Yet in class, everyone was told that they had to go to the ceremony and write a reflection on it. So I had to go, no other option there. The day of the ceremony was a really busy day for me. I had a really important presentation that same day right after the ceremony would’ve ended. The presentation was for my Chemistry laboratory’s investigation and I had to use my lab coat. Hence I decided to wear the lab coat to the ceremony and stand up at front with it on. I felt so fulfilled the moment I did that.
Anyways, during the ceremony I was really tired and bored so I was half asleep the whole time, but the stress did not let me fall asleep. I decided then, that after I received the award, I would flee from it all and go do my biddings. So I did; I got my prize and went back to my seat to get my things and leave. Though I did leave, I stopped at the entrance for a while to get some snacks that were being given to everyone that left from the ceremony. So that’s what happened to me during the ceremony.
